Update on wolves background.

I didn't get a lot accomplished over the long weekend but here is the update on what I have accomplished with the background of the Timber Wolves panel.

The foliage is too blue and I will be giving it washes of green and brown to correct this. Hopefully I can finish the background today so that I can get started on the wolf fur.

Evening Update (again): Well, I did complete the background and now I can concentrate on the wolves. I hope they will go faster than the background.

Working on the Wolves background.

I finally started on the final background of the Timber Wolves panel.
I worked on the left side today and will tackle the right side tomorrow. I would really like to finish this and send to the Mural Mosaic so that I can get back to my regular paintings.

The right side will be mostly small branches and foliage. There will just be a hint of the dark tree trunck. When the wolves are painted, they won't look so stark sitting in the trees.

Changing wolves background.

I couldn't stay away from those wolves today. LOL

I changed my mind on the background. It will now be the 2 wolves sitting on a tree covered slope in the fall.

I blocked in the base colours to cover all the snow I had painted. It's too late to go on tonight. The picture will lighten as I paint the fallen leaves and fir trees around the wolves. I still have to keep the basic picture shapes and dark lines from the original panel. That will show more as I paint the trees.

I thought you might like to see a closeup of the face.

Working on the Mural panel.

The panel is going well. Two timber wolves in a snow covered cedar bush.
It's kind of at the ugly stage right now. I'm getting the placement of the cedar trees and shadows in the right spots and seeing how bright the whites need to be on the fur.
I'm happy with the progress so far.

I need to take a break from the wolves and go back to my regular paintings today.

Mural panel stage 2, the start.

Well, I guess you can tell what I decided to paint on my panel for the Mural Mosaic. It is a pair of wolves sitting in front of either a grove of trees or a rock face. I haven't decided that yet. I'm keeping the same tones, lights and darks, as the original panel so that it will work in the final picture.

Mural Mosaic panel stage 1.

I received my panel for the mural mosaic, Earth's Treasure Chest. This is how the panel comes, pre-painted in the colours and designs that I must follow in designing the finished painting. The panel will become part of a larger painting that will raise money for CPAWS. I am glad that the panel is in the brown tones. I was worried that I might get a blue panel and I have been painting too many blue based paintings lately. :)

I have to design a wildlife painting in the same brown tones and include the darker stripes into my design. This should be fun. I get to spend the evening staring at the panel and decide what my painting should look like.

There are some well known celebrities that will be involved in the project. Please take a look. My panel will be number 212.

Hornby Berry Farm finished.

I finished the painting just in time to still put two coats of varnish on top before I have to deliver it. The 97 (to be) relation will be happy to get this. She knew I was painting it but has not seen the progress. The painting will bring back memories of her years spent on this farm producing strawberries.

I had to paint 3/4 of the painting by memory, so I am not very pleased with the outcome. I kept hearing, this goes here, and you didn't put this in! Very difficult trying to make something true to life with old grainy pictures of pieces of the farm. It's a good thing I can remember what the basic placements were. The composition isn't as pleasing as I would have liked, but I had to compromise.

Weekend painting.

I did some painting last night on Gunner and included the double-barreled shotgun and packsack. They are just blocked in, no details yet. You will also notice that the large tree on the right is gone. I'm putting in smaller trees to balance the picture.

And I finished the orange vest in Dixie's painting, I still have to paint the grouse on the vest.

That's all for today.

May begins, and paintings galore!

Whew, what a lot of paintings on the go! Spring is in the air, but there are snow flurries today. I have been doing a little here, a little there, wherever the mood strikes me.

This is where I am with Dixie In The Field. I worked on the Brittany hunting dog quite a bit last night and the closer view shows the detail.

Hornby's Berry Farm is coming along and I have to finish it this week for a birthday present. The foreground and middle ground trees still have to be included.

The Portrait of A Fisherman is a bit too colourful in the skin tones and the background keeps changing but I think I have a good start. I decided on dark water and light coloured trees. I can see the finished painting in my mind.

The Swan is still in the basic stages of blocking in and I am trying different brush techniques in the center portion to get the correct look of swirling water and shadow. I like the abstract look of this one.

This weekend should bring more results.
