Well! I didn't expect this surprise. I won Best Realistic in the Creative Catalyst Spring Mixed Media Art Show.
The painting entered was "Sanctuary". The duck on Mattagami River.
You can see the whole art show HERE.
As for my other painting. I spent three days painting white window frames. Somehow I don't think you want to see those. LOL.
Today I am back working on "Portrait of a Fisherman" which is for a present and needs to be finished soon. That and the dogs, which are taking a LONG time.
I know, I'm slow. Thank goodness there is no need to rush. Sometimes I make a great discovery half way through a painting and change things for the better. That is why I like taking my time. On some paintings, I just sit and scratch my head until the ideas make sense. Nothing about painting comes easy to me. It is just a need to create something that I like.

Update on Portrait of a Fisherman
You will have to excuse the dark lines on the picture. I had to use my scanner to show the update and scan it in 4 sections. I'll get a full picture when my camera is home.
I've decided on dark water, light blue sky and yellow, fall coloured, trees to match the rest of the colours in the painting. I'm just starting to paint the bass. There is not detail in the figure yet. I want to get everything looking correct before I add details.
I'll post more tomorrow.

Late night self portrait work.
I had a couple of hours to paint before bed. I attended a party and didn't get home in time to work on the others.
I'm close to finishing the head, but of course the colours darkened as they dried, sigh! I'll have another go tomorrow night and see if I can finish.
I'll put the background in later.

Just the faces left.
Well my plans for Saturday changed so I decided to paint the faces and throats tomorrow when I am fresh and can see straight. All the body fur is done, up to and including the ears on both wolves.
The picture is scan of the two heads. I spliced them together so they don't fit exactly. (The joys of being without a camera!) Remember, the painting itself is square.

I need to finish these wolves tomorrow!!!!
Today's efforts.
I need to finish this painting by tomorrow night but everything is going smoothly. I just need to put the time in. Monday I will be mailing it to the Mural Mosaic and it will be shown in different cities this summer. There will be an on-line auction of all the paintings and 100% of the sales of this painting will go to CPAWS. (Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society)

On a Roll!
Finally the old brain is working properly (I hate having to take time off from painting) and I am getting somewhere. The bottom wolf looks really weird with coloured blocks so I didn't bother to post that one. I'm just finding all the divisions on the fur and starting in with the colour variations.
This painting has to be finished this weekend, to mail out, so I'm working hard to get it finished.

I also worked on my self-portrait that I have to finish. Now, when I got to this stage, I noticed the eyes were too small. I'll have to fix that tonight before finishing it. The skin tone is uneven because it is being painted in strong side light and I am blocking in all the basic shadows before trying to make it look like skin.

Painting again.
Well, I took a few days off from painting and I'm finding it hard to get into the swing of it again. I like to paint every day which keeps my mind on the subject.
I started today (struggling) blocking in the colour on the wolves. I had to get the lightest colour on the fur down so that I could get the mid-tones correct. All the time, keeping the colours correct to match the mural project. Of course, the white fur on the wolves will stand out in the painting. I hope to have it done by Friday and mail it to the Mural Mosaic for display.

Dixie's painting will be finished next, I worked a bit on it this morning but it is fine detail and not much to show for my efforts.
