A busy day.

I have shopping to do today but I squeezed in an hours work before leaving.

Deer at Night step 5.

Well, after a long day shopping, I was too tired to paint. But I bought stretcher frames for 3 canvases and enough board to make 6 other paintings. I'll cut them to size tomorrow and prime them ready for use.

I am also building a new website. You may have noticed some changes to my current website while I looked at the colours I liked. My new website won't have advertising to bother you and should be easier to navigate. I will keep my current web address for the front page until everyone knows where the new site is located. I will also keep my painting diary blog. It is easy to upload and has great options.

So now I have to make a list of the paintings I will start this week.

1/ It's Too Cold: two young girls with their toes in a cold northern lake. The picture reminds me of my childhood .

2/Ooooh, I have to start painting my miniatures. They have a deadline of March 30th!! Eeeeek!

3/ Another puma....cool.

4/ Canada Goose.

5/Little boy fishing off a dock.

6/ An owl.

7/ Moose???

8/And I'll have to check my files for the last ones. That should keep me going till June. :) I'll have to cancel all my days off! ;(

Deer at Night

Step 4 of Deer at Night. It's the only thing I can work on besides the self portraits, and I don't feel like looking at myself today. :)

Tonight's the night!!!

Tonight I will be FINISHED the PUMA!! Yeah ...... it took a while, and I have about another hour on the leaves just at it's right front foot. But it will be done, and the frame looks good so I am happy.

It has to be varnished after photographing it but doesn't take long to dry. Then to ship it to The Ontario Puma Foundation. :)

YES, I will finish it!

I know, this is taking me forever but now I just have to finish the bottom right hand corner. It suits my taste now, stands out stronger as an image.

Just his lower back to finish now. :) In the morning, it's already 12:30 a.m.

Almost there, again.

Well, my changes are close and I'll have the puma finished shortly. The last week has been spent on the computer and other things. Now I have 2 weeks of uninterrupted painting time. :)

So the face is done and I should have the foliage finished by Sunday.

I'll keep posting now daily. I have a lot of paintings to start this next week.

Making changes.

Well....I didn't like what I saw on the puma painting so I'm making changes. OF COURSE. I always make changes.

So, I've changed the colour lighter and to make more of an impact. It will be more detailed than at this stage. It won't take long to make the changes I want. If I could just decide on the foliage now.

Be done soon.

Groundhog Day??

Move over, Mr. Groundhog! This Friday, February 2 is also World Wetlands Day, giving people across the globe a special opportunity to celebrate the international importance of conserving wetland habitat – even in countries like Canada where wetlands are frozen at least part of the year!
“Our wetlands may be frozen, but there’s still lots going on and that bodes well for what these wetlands will do come spring,” says Dr. Henry Murkin, director of conservation programs with Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC).

Murkin adds that when healthy winter wetlands melt in the spring, they nurture flocks of migrating waterfowl with vegetation and invertebrates that overwintered in the wetland mud. And that’s not all. Healthy wetlands also:

* Act as nature’s filter. By nourishing plant growth, wetlands can remove more than 90 per cent of common nutrient pollutants like nitrogen and phosphorous. They also remove disease-carrying pathogens that could harm people.

* Moderate climate change. These same plants take carbon dioxide from the air and “sequester” the carbon in the soil, where it’s used to grow more plants. This part of a wetland’s life cycle removes a potentially harmful greenhouse gas from the air – and replaces it with life-giving oxygen.

* Sustain wildlife habitat. Canadian wetlands provide essential habitat for about 600 species of wildlife, including the waterfowl, waterbirds and shorebirds that migrate into Canada to breed and raise their young. Some of this habitat is critical to threatened species of wildlife.

* Generate recreational opportunities. Wetlands give people a chance to experience the best nature has to offer. Bird watching, hiking, hunting, fish and eco-tourism depend on healthy wetlands.
* Mitigate flood damage. Wetlands act like giant sponges. They collect and store water in wet years, reducing flood damage and preventing soil erosion.

* Recharge groundwater. By holding rain and runoff water in place, wetlands recharge local sources of groundwater. This water sustains wildlife, livestock and agricultural crops in good years – and in times of drought.

Unfortunately, up to 70 per cent of wetlands have disappeared in settled areas of Canada, lost to industrial development and municipal and agricultural expansion. With new research showing how wetlands also improve the quality of life for people, DUC encourages Canadians to look for ways to conserve, maintain and restore these valuable ecosystems. People can start by sending friends and family an e-card on Feb. 2. (from Ducks Unlimited Canada)

Feb. has to be better than Jan.!

Thank goodness it's February! Jan. was a total mess in my house. Everyone was sick a one point and two of us were ill with two different viruses the whole month! One last trip to the doctor today and everything should be good.

And like Murphys law, everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. I didn't even have the energy to paint! So I am happy to see the first day of Feb. and hope it brings me better luck.

Expect a lot of updates because I have a lot of painting in the next 3 months.

Brightening the facial features, and then on to finish the body.
